Astoria Raffle Winners

I received a call on our land line yesterday looking for my hubby. Apparently, hubby won a free dinner for two on a raffle. The caller said that the raffle entry was filled up by hubby last weekend in Fun Ranch. I have seen him so I really thought that it was for real. The call lasted for more than ten minutes. The caller, which is, Love Perez, by the way, says that we won a dinner for two at Club Astoria in Astoria Hotel in Ortigas. We also won a gift certificate of two days and three nights stay in Bohol or in Bangkok. She also said that we can avail of the free dinner that day at 6 PM or at 8:30 PM and if we are not available we can avail it on the next day (which is today). She ask for my mobile number, which I gave (damn!) and says she will be our coordinator for the said event. It has been mentioned too that after the dinner we need to stay for 90 minutes because we will be toured around the hotel. Then awarding of gift certificate is next.

To tell you the truth, I was convinced that we really won a free dinner for two and was ecstatic to hear that we won a two days 3 nights accommodation in Panglao Island (which I am dreaming more than you dream about Boracay). She was convincing because:

* she talks about the time and date where hubby filled up the raffle and it was true
* she talks about the stub number and so so of the raffle coupon
* she keeps on saying that there is no financial obligation and that we don"t need to bring credit cards (which we don't have) or cash (which I don't have)
* upon my inquiry if the kids are allowed, she said yes.. and even assures me that we are going to have a fun family dinner and that I should bring some jackets for the kids (very kind of her)
* she also said that the reason why hubby is picked as a winner is because he is a family man

Now what makes me think twice about it?
* diction and pronunciation baby.. she says engineer with an e not with an i
* and she keeps on saying and assuring me that there is no financial obligation
* we never won a raffle before.. not once..

So I searched on the net about Astoria Raffle and their winners.. well..
read and read and discover Astoria

After reading the entries regarding that I searched for Astoria Hotel and called their international number. I said I am verifying a raffle so and so and they transferred my call to their cafe. The lady who answered was polite enough to say she knows nothing about it and that people organizing the said event was not in the area yet..

How was the free dinner?

Nah.. I can't just brave the Ortigas Avenue traffic for a free dinner which would cost me 90 minutes of my time which can be used to write an article on my blog.

oh by the way I told the girl I maintain a blog and that I will be blogging about them, indeed I am.LOL

I am not saying this is a SCAM Ok, if you have been chosen as one of the winners go and have some free dinner and share with us your stories.. Actually I was tempted to go for the sake of my blog.. but.. hubby says no.

Astoria Hotel is located in #15 J. Escriva Drive, Ortigas Business District, Pasig City

I'm a victim! I filled-up this raffle coupon at the Ark of Avilon in Tiendesitas. And I also received a call went, and yes its true that the food was for free. As usual, there was a catch. Offers!offers!offers! walang kamatayang offers! Not only that, the agent who talked to us, after a few days, called me and was offering another, that is not of Astoria Plaza anymore.

oh my! hubby and i were supposed to go there too, sometime last year.. naku ang galing ng mga kausap sa phone, buti na lang our december sched did not permit us..

i was told na some boss from our company referred me to them for that free dinner and etc etc.. i did not believe at first but with consistent calls i said we will go, but thanked god we did not! hohoho

now i have to believe it is really a scam after all! thanks for posting pehpot!

Sadly im a fresh victim of this astoria scam. Once you're there and hear them out, all your questions are answered wisely and that you would really think that it is not a scam. It would look as if you are putting money on a piggy bank, then use it afterwards for your travel. Since i love travelling, i thought this would be a good deal. My bad was not to check first thru net.. Now.. im suffering the consequence. I'll try to get a refund and truly, i want to spread this to stop their misleading operation.

i dont think its a scam. if you people are really into travelling, spending holidays then, be part of astoria. a marketing strategy i should say of offering you their deal and not any scam as you believe it is. after all, you cannot be a member or own a holiday ownership if you cannot afford ;since you know, people who have only excess money can difinitely be a part of that exclusive club. i guess, we should say sorry for those who never try their luck. God bless everyone!!!

if you recieve a call from club astoria you might want to decline it if you want to save time. don't be lured on the buffet that they are giving for free. it sucks! your time is more precious than theirs so why bother going. for those who bought the offer, good luck and i hope you enjoy what you have been promised for 30 years. hahaha! the only good thing i got here is their representative... tsk! thanks club astoria! hehehe!

they are still doing this scheme! free dinner shit! surely, i could afford to eat such dinners...btw, i also have almost the same story..this happened to my husband and i twice! one in boracay, the other in bag of beans tagaytay!

this is actually not a scam, its a form of a marketing strategy, what they are luring you into is a timeshare presentation. i used to work in a timeshare company in the states. astoria is a timeshare resort and if you buy from them you will own one weeks time in the resort every year. its difficult to sell coz its expensive and you are better off buying a condo so these people will resort to offering free gifts just to lure you into 3-5hrs of hardcore selling. the freebies by the way are crappy. my advice is just say NO if indeed you are lured into their trap. most people in the states will just take advantage of the freebie and will just say no up until the representative lays down his/her flag. they will really push you to buy that it would seem like a scam. this strategy is somewhat similar to the people in the mall asing if you have credit card and those with scratch cards saying that you won something.

Hi All,

yes, what they offer is a club membership called timeshare ..if travelling is your passion you might as well avail of this because the 7days per year can be spread out in local affiliated hotel if you are not going to use the home base accommodation that is Astoria Plaza..For an every other year option the cash price is only 186,000.00 payable in 90 days otherwise 240k in two years, 10%on the first month then 6.2k thereafter.

The free trip in the gift Certificate is true..We just booked ours for Bohol in August..

I knew it! Its a scam! I signed my form at Caltex in Caloocan. I'll text them to confirm and We will not show up. Harharhar!

hi guys!

im from bacolod and got a call just this afternoon.. SCAM or not im not going... because its too good to be true.. my wife won 2 weeks ago.. we did not go to the dinner..and now i won... hmmmm too much luck...

Yes, this is true, a call from astoria, a free dinner for two, a 3 days and 2 nights hotel accommodation in bohol or vegas, a 90 minute presentation. But because of my hectic sched, i was not able to go on the sched dinner. Last year, my sister and her husband also recd a call from them. They just avail the dinner, attend the presentation and get the certificate, that's why they were able to go to boracay at no cost on their hotel accommodation...We think that this is not a scam.. we agree on some blogger that this is just the astoria peoples' marketing strategy..if you really don't have money or intention to get one of their thing, then tell them, drop their offers. and just thank for the free dinner and the hotel accommodation.

does anyone know the lawyer or lawyers of club astoria? thanx

Anonymous said...

yes the name of their lawyer is Arturo Mercader and the name of their Credit & Collection Manager Ellen S. Flores
reason why i knew them...sad to say im one of their newly scammed victims, they did not refund my money! scammers! but i'll get even with that company i knew someone from media whose helping me out already, that company should be forced to stop scamming people! and those who are leaving comments that are in favor of astoria..they are the employees of astoria..you cant fool us here! dont fall for those sweet promises..they are all liars! they are getting really big commissions out of the people they are able to convince to join! There's always karma! remember that...and i cant wait to see that to club astoria..

My sister can't refund her 40k in club astoria she just cancelled her membership and you know what they said to her "bakit ko pipirmahan yang cancellation letter bigay mo lang samin yan para ma-process" actually we were deceived by their sweet tongues, now that my sister cancelled her membership bastos na sila. Anyone here know how to deal with this or a lawyer where we can ask if the contract is really notarized and legal? Please help my sister, she need to process this right away she's going to Scotland next week. Thanks

Good thing he's also abroad so thats what i told the Astoria guy/gay with a Visayan accent. He'll be calling next month when my hubby arrives... but I know what to tell him next time, harhar!

OMG! So what I believe is true was just a stupid, non-sense promo.. I received a call from an agent- just today telling me that I won the raffle promo of their club which I signed from them last Dec. 30 in Sm north edsa. The girl told me that I won a 3days 2nights stay with a free breakfast and dinner compliment to go with it. She told me that it was an introductory promo of their company. She told me that she will call me again after a day or to to confirm my accommodation from their system.. so the raffle was just a HOAX.. F#*ck them.. Ill tell the media about this SCAM!

Anonymous said...

ITS A SCAM

Its an old timeshare trick, you win a prize and then feel like you have to go along with the investment.

So they give you something worth $50 and then you give them thousands !!!!

They focus on expensive restaurants so they know people have money.

They ask you for your income

They will then try to sell you a crap investment

You will not make any money and never see your money again.

They should be banned and locked up.

NEVER GIVE ANYONE PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE TO PEOPLE WHO YOU DO NOT KNOW FOR ANY REASON.

Hi all,

I'm in no way connected to the hotel or timeshare industry, but I can tell you this is NOT A SCAM.
I've been invited to a similar thing before in the US (from Hilton group), were I get 3 nights w/ breakfast for a ridiculously low rate (79USD in total for 3 nights whilst same hotel in Vegas goes for more than US$ 100 per night during the week in low season) in "Paris" hotel in Las Vegas (4 star, on the Strip). All I needed to do was to attend a 90 minutes presentation with my girlfriend. They only had 1 minimum requirement: family income (both partners combined) must be over USD 70k annually.
We went to Vegas, we prepaid the $79. there were no other add on charges (we paid for our flight and food separately of course), and sat through a 90min presentation on an agreed date there at the Hilton club. They were not even that pushy to sell Hilton timeshares, and we managed relatively easily to tell them we were not interested at that point because we didn't have the money (although we met their criteria of 70k income).
there were ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATIONS to buy anything or agree to anything else.
We were very happy as to us, this was a very cheap trip to Vegas.

I'm not sure what Astoria does, but with Hilton, this was not a SCAM. Only 2 differences is Hilton club didn't say we won a raffle. they just said we qualify, because of our household income.
And we paid a very small amount for the room whilst with Astoria it's free.
We got a call today, and we're going there tomorrow night.
I just hope the hotels you can choose from with the gift cert., are decent enough

me and my partner will attend the dinner later 6pm at pinnacle hotel ;) I wont shed a cent though ill just get the free ticket and eat the free dinner lol!

Hi all! I am from La Union province and they are now operating here in the provinces. I recall the agent saying their next target is Cebu. Same modus as mentioned here except for the "raffle thing". They are really skilled at marketing their product so beware. What we really did'nt like is the way they pressured us into buying at a discounted rate that they were offering for this night only. So we said No! They even showed us photos of people (some of them we knew) who availed of their membership! We felt sorry for those people who fell victim to this kind of scheme. Although they gave us their certificate we are wary of using it because of this booking fee that we must pay and it takes 30 days just to confirm it. It could be a trap! So beware. Don't be impulsive.

wow.. thanks for all who shared. Hi.. I also happened to receive a call from Astoria Plaza yesterday telling me that my hubby and I won a free dinner buffet at Astoria Plaza Hotel in Ortigas. The girl also told me that after the dinner, we will be entitled for a gift certificate of 3D/2N in their hotel in either Bohol or Bangkok or Las Vegas (?). She said that we only have to spend at least 90 mins of our time after the dinner so they will be able to introduce to us their hotel. I confirmed our attendance tonight only to avail of the dinner and the free accomodation. But one blog caught my attention, is it true that they will require you to pay a security bond of P5,000 or P10,000 before you can get the GC for the free accomodation? Need your comments ASAP please, before we fall into the hands of these SCAMMERS.. thank you.

this is not a scam, we availed the gift certificate and choose bangkok, of course you pay for airline ticket and a booking fee of php5000 (refundable)the free accomodation is 3days 2nts at silom hotel in bangkok,,, nice hotel, we upgraded our rooms (to avail of free bfast buffet ) and extended our stay for 1 day,,, we pay only equivalent of php4000,,, not bad considering the room has complete amenities with minibar, ref, coffee/teamaker,,, my advice is - if you can afford to buy a timeshare then go for it,,, if you can't,,why bother to sign-up and make a deposit and after a week choose to cancel and demand a refund!! you can say no directly and they will still give you the gift certificate...

Anonymous said...

it is not a scam, once you decide to purchase a timeshare then thats it, you have an obligation to pay, if you think you can't afford it, why signed-up and make a deposit, then after a week cancel it & demand a refund.. you can just say no and avail of their free dinner, but you have to stay for the rest of their presentation,,, kasi pinakain ka na nga, lalayasan mo kaagad,, that rude...

Anonymous said...

hi! my husband and i just went to astoria last friday. i don't think this is a scam. as what others said, this is a marketing strategy. it is astoria's way of getting people to know more about their hotels. it's true that there is no financial obligation. if you can't afford time share then why say "yes"? you can just go there and enjoy the meal and if you can not stay for 90 minutes, just let them know. anyway, they'll ask you to sign a waiver prior to the buffet. and yes, they'll still give you the GC for 3D/2N accommodation.

Just because of a free lunch, I spent 11,000 pesos.
I was invited to have a free lunch and to attend a presentation for 90 minutes,
But actually it lasted for 4 hours. At first they offered a timeshare for 700,000 pesos…
(What a price) how I wish I can afford it. After saying I can’t afford, then they offered a Platinum card for 11000 pesos. I decided to buy the platinum card, only after hearing from the holiday consultant (sales person) that it includes a 3D/2N GC that I can use in Astoria Bohol or Astoria Palawan…. TRY TO SEARCH FOR ASTORIA BOHOL OR ASTORIA PALAWAN…. THERE IS NONE YET!!!!(FU!K!!!NG !!!!!)
I called them and asked a lot of questions…..

at first i thot it was a scam but when if u think of it not as an investment but a luxury, to be part of a club with hotel use benefits then it is ok, for me i go to bohol for work and leisure so the 7 days and discounts s useful to me.. its lyk forced hotel use in one sense but it does not apply to everyone though since it is a luxury item to be part of clubs.. bohol will open in september

but then the marketing strategy sucks , i prefer referrals and more agents but not free dinner etc...

I've been a member of club astoria for nearly 5 years now. I can say it works and it's really true. Me and my family have traveled in the US and some parts in Europe using the membership.

Well it is a very exclusive vacation club and certainly is not for everyone. I feel sad for those who rant it just because they couldn't afford, such a crab mentality. Maybe try working a little harder so next time around when opportunity comes you'll have the means to experience it and not just be content on sourgraping over something which you can't have.

To those who think it's a scam, well good luck! I'm off to my next trip while you're stuck with your shitty lives....

Well, thanks because now I knew its a waste of time.

i think hindi naman sya scam???it's up to you to avail or not just say you can't afford it..i think it's just a marketing strategy and they offer you a free dinner for two so it's worth the 90 mins of your time with a view of ortigas center pa. i think okie naman i did not avail but i listen to the proposals and simply say dont have the money to pay the membership fee. but i get the free gift certificate to bohol for two and we booked for October 2011.
so it's not a scam 3days and 2 nights in exchange for 90 minutes listening is worth it.

curlz_of the eyes said...

its not a scam… i already used their gift certificate of free accomodation for two to bohol. and we did not pay anything to the hotel, only airfare tickets of course. you should be open minded. its up to you to be a member or not. they will not forced you to sign anything and i think in exchange for the 90 minutes 3 days and 2 nights to bohol it's worth it. the food is buffet but it's worth the travel...

Sayang yung free dinner pero our time and effort to go there na dala-dala baby ko ay hindi sapat un. Again thanks sa nagblog nito....tnx for saving my ass sa mga makukulit na agent na un.

hi everyone..actually i recived a call from astoria yesterday i was bother about what jo diolanda "caller's name" said that, after she ask about our 60k/month income we need to declare it for us not to be disqualify in the said raffle we won, that made me think about the consumer of the gas station where we fill-out the raffle ticket don't have the same status or walang pera? kasali pa ba sila? lam ko raffle pag nabunot ka ibibigay lang prize to make the winner's feel their luck 'what you win is what you get sa madaling salita..ehe..i still choose to come just to claim the raffle, but behind that hindi na ako interesado pa sa mga sasabihin nila n sasabihin ko before kami kumain, atleast wala ng chechebureche..kahit sa free dinner lang ma feel ko that i won the raffle..ahaha..

i wanna find out myself if these things are true. i will let you know guys if the trip to Bohol is real and that the 5k bond indeed can be refunded. like you we attended the free dinner and got the free GC trip to Bohol, but we didnt avail the 200k plus or 186k plus not the 11k membership of Astoria.

Hi!I got a call few minutes back regarding this. I was asked if I remember filling out a raffle coupon at Essel Supermarket, San Fernando Pampanga, I said yes, because I did. Now, this lady told me that I won a complimentary buffet dinner for 2 at Lewis Grand Hotel, tomorrow at 6pm. After reading this blog, what should I do? Please share your experience.. thank you!

im from Davao City, well, this is not a SCAM.. seriously.. siguro sa mga taong nagsasabing SCAM ito, eh malamang CAN'T AFFORD lang sila sa mga offers ng ASTORIA.. well, don't worry, FREE naman po yung gift certs eh. NEVER NAMAN PO NILA SINABI NA HINDI NILA IBIBIGAY ANG GC IF EVER HINDI KAYO GAGRAB NG OFFERS NILA.. ang dami namang bobong tao. Ganun lang naman yun kasimple eh!

This raffle winner thing happened to my parents this morning! I really thought it was "real" you won thing.

We got the free gift certificate too but really want to know if it's real or not, and that there would be no hassle upon using it.

I have availed this free dinner buffet with my friend last Thursday night in Astoria Plaza Hotel (Pasig City). We arrived at 8:15pm at nagfill out ng form regarding our work and income plus if we are willing to have the 90minute hotel presentation. After we ate the dinner, a hotel representative gave us the gift certificate containing the free hotel accommodation either in bohol, indonesia, bangkok, or las vegas. then after, they thanked us for coming. My friend and I were suprised na hindi kami nagundergo sa 90minute presentation. we think it is because it's already late. their time sched is 6-8:30pm. sa tingin ko hindi po ito scam, dahil kung ito ay scam bakit nila papalagpasin ang kagaya namin? ang mga scammer ay todo mangareer ng pangungulit and i think we our monthly income can avail the hotel's membership fee, hindi naman po ito sa pagmamayabang. pero walang nangyaring ganun dahil they still follow their schedule.

This coming March po, I am going to avail the free hotel accommodation in Bangkok Thailand Selom Hotel (wala pa po kasing astoria hotel in Thailang kaya their connecting with their sister's hotel). I will go there with my korean tutee. We're going to give the 5K booking fee which is 100% percent refundable at wag po kayong mag-aalala i will post here asap if it will be really refundable for the sake din ng iba na nagtatanong. gusto ko po talagang maranasang makapagtravel somewhere else aside from the pinas. and I'm praying to God na sana this is an answered prayer.

By the way, this is a marketing strategy, as I can see and believe in, kesa po kasi kumuha sila ng mga bigating artista or advertisement to endorse their hotel, their doing this tactics. We just have to be smart kung saan tayo dapat magsabi ng OO at HINDI. Godbless po sa lahat. At lalo na sa author ng blog na ito. Sobrang laking tulong po ng blog nyong ito. :)
